VITP_BCNET

BCNET offers community peering and data swapping with super high-speed connections to other research institutions around the world.

What is BCNET?
Imagine a community where business, government, hospitals, libraries, and higher education organizations are interconnected to a single high-speed hub where they can share packets of information freely. Today, this unique data hub is a reality in Victoria. Through the BCNET Transit Exchange, Victoria has the ability to interconnect with the entire technology community.

BCNET is a non-profit society supporting and promoting advanced networks for the province's research and education communities. The organization serves BC's universities and institutes, research and development institutions, government bodies, community organizations and industry groups. BCNET is the province's foremost leader in advanced network technology and is leading the way for enhancing education and research capabilities over the Internet. BCNET is supported by the provincial and federal governments as well as by its regional university members.

BCNET is capable of processing 10 gigabytes per second, up to 10,000 times the amount of an average home hookup. Organizations that have research as their mandate may be eligible to connect to the BCNET Optical Regional Advanced Research Network (ORAN) and gain access to researchers, institutes, and universities throughout the province, across the country, and around the world. The global system of education and research networks involve 42 nations from around the world.

Simply put, the Vancouver Island Technology Park keeps you connected.
